Dear Community Resident,
I would like to introduce you to Special Services for Senior Citizens, a community based Case Management agency designed for and around the needs of Brooklyn’s older adults. I want to take this opportunity to warmly welcome you and thank you for taking the time to visit our web page to learn more about our organization and scope of services. We hope you find the website informative and easy to use.
At Special Services for Senior Citizens we approach our work with a deep respect and admiration for the unique talents, diverse background and personal life experiences, as well as the perspectives of our clients and their loved ones. We subscribe to the belief that if we combine our collective strengths we can create and maintain a vibrant community. I am a believer that a connection to one’s community yields numerous mental, emotional, physical and social benefits. A special focus is placed on motivating Brooklyn’s home-bound elderly to actively engage in community alliances to meet new friends or to share and contribute their own life histories in one form or another. Whether virtually or in person, whether on singular micro, mezzo or macro level we want to connect our home bound, so that we are never aging alone. To this end, we welcome ideas and suggestions from our clients, their families and caregivers, and members of the communities to fully honor our commitment.
I have been fortunate enough to have worked with the organization since 2003. Over the years, I have been extremely privileged to have had the opportunity to learn from many of our clients and their families. The knowledge and wisdom, I have gained from these interactions has been invaluable to me personally and professionally, it has helped me gain a stronger appreciation and understanding of the olders adult’s individual needs and desires. As Executive Director my chief task it to support the senior citizen community, assist in providing the best possible outcome for each client as they navigate the transitions of continued aging.
Over the years with the help of community partners, volunteers, and committed staff we have been able to honor this commitment. Though the times have changed, our dedication remains the same. The services the agency provides to vulnerable home bound adults — including the frail and disabled — and their caregivers is extensive and invaluable. I am enthusiastic in highlighting our commitment to support family caregivers, improve quality of service, protect vulnerable adults against exploitation, and provide clients with unique and positive outcomes and to “Ease the Transitions of Aging and Disability with Dignity and Choices”.
Please take the time to browse our website and feel free to contact us directly if you have further interests or questions in getting to understand the important and vital services we provide to the community. I am confident you will feel our commitment once you reach out to us directly.
Sincerely yours,
Monica Bechan
